Know Your Worth

Proverbs 3:15

Let's just say, its been an off week. I have been overwhelmed and discouraged and in some desperate need of some Godly fellowship with some close and amazing friends. And tonight after Bible study certainly didn't disappoint. 

Some how we got onto the topic of being Godly influences of sorts. They are always telling me what a light I am and what not, and I have a hard time believing it. Most the time I am a mess. And I can't possibly see how I could be a shining light for God if I can't even remember how to spell my own name. So I tend to just brush off their compliments and encouragement. Especially when I am feeling down.

But tonight, one of them told me something that really hit a chord with me. She told me, "Laina, know your worth and let it show. Don't be overly humble and put yourself down. Don't let what others think discourage you or put you down."

Know your worth...in this day and age, what does that even mean? We are taught (as girls) that our worth is based on the clothes we wear and the guys we date. The people we hang out with or what we do with our time or how we look. Whether we are "cool" or "worthy" depends on completely superficial things.

 I believe that our "worth" is defined by so much more. Matthew 6:26 says, "Look at the birds of the air, that they do not sow, nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not worth much more than they?" We are worth something because God has made us to glorify Him. He made us worth something when He breathed us into existence. So to put such material labels on ones worth, is demeaning.

Its hard in a world that is constantly putting you down to stand back up with confidence and know who you are. To break the mold set before us by society that says to be worth something you have to be this, this, and this. Know that your worth comes from God and that that is the ultimate worth that can't be taken away.

Know your worth and let it show. I dare you.

{Who am I...?}

I realised I've never written up a background type thing about myself...Which is pretty sad...Anyways..Here it goes ^.^

     Being the little philosopher that I'd like to think myself to be, I ask myself that question quite often. "Who are you, Onyca? Who is Onyca?" Here is what I've found out so far (and I like lists, so bear with me ^.^).


I am:

1. Human (and painfully so)
2. The eldest daughter of Tyrone and Angela (my loving and also very human parents)
3. The only one in my family to be born outside of America (that crushed my dreams of presidency at a young age ;P)
4. A nanny
5. A maid
6. A musician
7. A composer
8. A dancer
9. A writer/author (of books/novels)
10. A child of God, saved by grace
11. A sinner shown new mercies every day
12. A farmer's daughter (well...an ex-Polo Ralph Lauren GM, current coffee shop GM who is a farmer...'s daughter...)
13. Broken
14. Healing
15. Growing
16. Learning
17. One who loves traveling
18. and baking
19. and cooking (and really anything that has to do with food...)
20. Very carefully selective of who I call my close friends (I make friends fairly easily, but I don't show my cards to everyone)
21. An adopter of persons. (I have a list of "sister" who ARE my sisters but aren't legally related or related by blood. I also have a "sponcer child." I've unofficially/officially adopted a little girl. I am an aunt and a grandmother...I think #archeryfamilytree...Yeah...It's fun...)
22. A lover of all things different and quite un-American.
23. Always trying to carry out God's will for my life (which is hard, but so worth it).
24. Constantly trying to find ways to better society, my friends, my family and myself.
25. Always thinking deeply about SOMETHING
26. An INFJ (it's my personality type...Introverted iNtuituve Feeling Judging...so deep thinking is normal)
27. Also an HSP (Highly Sensitive Person...I feel everything deeply and I also have an acute intuitive awareness of nearly everything...true story)
28. A fangirl (like this is very much a part of who I am...lol!...I have a LOT of favourite shows and a LOT of things I go crazy over.)
29. A bit of a perfectionist (which comes from being an INFJ...I am not OCD)
30. all this and SOOOOO much more...

     I come from a big family, so noise and organized chaos is a big part of my life. I have seven kids younger than me and they all can be absolutely precious and completely...ridiculous...(C'est la vie...)
     I desperately want to get married and start my own big family.
     I also want to be a violin teacher, a graphic designer, a mommy, a professional fangirl (it would be awesome if I could be paid to freak out over everything!!!).

     Umm...That's all that I can think of right now...
